The Mandala of Life Art Projects: (Open to the Coastfest Creative Community)
Embracing individuality, promoting unity.
Taking individual creativity and adding that to the whole to make a wonderful bigger picture.
Using
circle/mandala (Sanskrit for circle) art projects before and during the
festival we want to bring individuals from all areas of our community together
to celebrate their own individuality by creating their own art as
well as celebrating their unity and connectedness by putting those
individual art pieces together with others to form bigger more
beautiful art installations. We want to show what we can do when we work together,
how we are all connected, a
part of the whole at the festival as well as the right to being individuals too. Showing the interconnectedness
of everything.
Our theme for the project: Circles within Circles
From the tiniest atom within us to the sun that shines big and bright in the sky, Circles and cycles are everywhere within us and our world. We breath in and out, circling air. We sleep, we wake …another cycle. We live within bodies that grow and renew and heal every day. We live within the circle of our blood family; individual yet connected to each other; within the circle of the larger family—our community—being a part of it in the way we choose; on a circular planet witnessing the cycles of nature, day and night, seasons, flowers that open and close daily, that grow, bloom and die scattering seeds to grow again; alongside cultures that live life on medicine wheels, walk continuous circles on spiral pathways, draw ever connected celtic knots, come together in drum circles or gather around the fires of talking circles knowing everyone is equal, under the sky of a solar system of planets which circle and cycle within our universe.
This is the “mandala of life”!! Each and every one of us an arc in that
universal picture unique and individual in our own way. An arc that
when added to another suddenly forms a circle transforming the tapestry
as it grows. It shows that our small arc still exists even when it
seems to disappear into the bigger picture but if that arc was taken
away the bigger picture would not be the same. The mandala of life is a
celebration of our individuality and at the same time our unity. It
celebrates that everything and everyone is interconnected and equal as
the tapestry continuously grows and changes.
So!—through your art and using your passion for life and the circular symbology that runs
within it, come and be part of the central coast community as we bring our part of the
universes rich tapestry well and truly alive at Coastfest 2008.
You
don’t want to miss this!!

Projects
Mandala of Life Art on canvas project:
Think outside the circle! A project showcasing local artists. Eighteen 90cmx90cm canvases will be given out to individuals so that each can do a mandala using the circles within circles theme, describing themselves and what is important to them in their life and/or in their community. Once completed each painting will then be put together with 8 of the others at the festival to make two larger canvas mandalas installations. Each artwork will be a standalone piece but when brought together at the festival will become a much larger piece of mandala art. Each piece of artwork will be used as an installation in one of the main venues.
